5 x 7 Baby onesie card & gift bag

I just love today's card and gift bag set. I have seen these onesie cards all over the place in the last year and just think they are the sweetest things. There are so many adorable papers to simulate the sweet baby print fabrics and I have been dying to try making one. I have no good reason for making more baby themed stuff. I only know 1 person currently baking a wee bun in the oven, a friend of a friend really. But still I could not resist.

I am so glad I didn't. Not bad for my first attempt right? I designed this Cricut .cut file in Design studio using George basic shapes again...I know I should dust off some of the other cartridges but this one does such a fabulous job that I forget about the others.

The crochet flower embellishment is hand made. I got the original pattern from nicholeheady.typepad.com and after making a few dozen just as she instructed I branched out and was being adventuresome. This is the result, its a little larger and has more petals and only 1 layer. I could not give you a pattern because at this point I don't remember exactly what stitches in what combination I did to get that result. But Nichole's tutorial is wonderful and they are so simple you can whip out a dozen while watching one of the Jason Bourne movies (that's what I did. :) )

To gently decorate all the white space around the onesie on the card and the gift bag I used a beautiful heart from CTMH A1103 A love stamp set and creme brulee ink. Now it was too bold and dark for the effect I wanted so I inked the stamp and did the first stamp off on a piece of scratch paper then I stamped on my card or my bag. I did this each time I inked up, just to soften the image.

I conserved paper during my designing so that I can get 2 bodies out of 1 sheet of 12 x 12 patterned paper and 2 sets of all the scallop edges out of 1 sheet of 8.5 x 11. That's what you are seeing in the above photo. I ran the cut the first time and then removed the paper and flipped it over and ran it again. I was happy to see it worked, none of the cuts went over the previous ones.
