Card file

This is my second card file in as many weeks. But when I saw this one and opened the tutorial I found pinned on Pinterest, I really liked some of the features of this one. So I decided to go into my trusty Cricut Design studio software and design another on. It appeared to me, and now I know it to be true, that this would be sturdier because the top and two slanted sides are folded over and taped down for a second layer, making it keep its shape better. The original designer at Embellish me blog did a wonderful picture tutorial for assembling this file.

I narrowed down my card file from 2 inches wide, as was her design, to about 1.25 inches, mostly because of Cricut .cut size limitations. It actually wastes about .25 inch all the way around the outer edge so I needed to keep the width of my box under 11.5 inches. Plus when I am giving a set of cards as a gift I usually make 6 cards and include the envelopes too. This is plenty wide enough to hold that many cards and envelopes.

Here is the view from the side. I kept the embellishments simple, just a strip of the paper as a belly band and a punched sentiment on the front edge.

Watermelon card

I was inspired to create this sweet card by a card I saw here. When I opened the link and discovered that the creator had stamped all the layers I was shocked. I loved the look and had assumed it was paper layers, made with punches. I still was intrigued to attempt to create a similar look with paper. Scraps no less. Love that!

So once again I opened up my Cricut Design studio software and set to work. I'm pretty happy with the outcome. I cut scalloped ovals out of green scrap, larger ovals out of white scrap and slightly smaller ovals from different pieces of red scraps. I also built into the Cricut .cut file the red scallop with dots layer and the white layer of the card topper design, all using George basic shapes and Mini monograms cartridges.

Here is a close up of the paper pieced watermelons. I glued all the layers together and then cut them in half. Then layered them out across the white paper, stamped my sentiment and layered it all on the tent card base.

Scrap cards

These are three more stash building, scrap using cards I have made during lunch breaks at work. I used this inspiration from Pinterest, and some CTMH paper packs to create these. The CTMH paper designs are from left to right, Typeset, Florentine and Pemberley.

Here's a close up of my favorite. I love the Florentine paper and the colors. See the twine? Its actually the cotton crochet thread, Sugar n' Cream. It's a variegated with 4 strands of thread. Two stands of white and 1 strand of a lighter color and 1 strand of darker color. So you divide it in half with 1 strand white and 1 of color. Very inexpensive to use this way. I couldn't find a good selection at my local Joann store. Just green and blue. But that's good for starters, and I used it on all three of those cards above.

This is the same pieces, I just switched it up. No twine wrapping to make them look like presents. This is a discontinued CTMH paper design, I believe it was called Boom-di-ada. Pretty bright colors.

Stacked favor boxes

These are darling 2 inch cubes cut on my Cricut, stamped with an all over design, filled with M&M's and stacked together and tied with a bow. I saw one similar here and was inspired to create my own. On my .cut file in Design studio I made it so I could add the cut of either the heart or the oval shape on the front of the plain boxes. I lined those cut out shapes with acetate on the inside of the box as I was assembling it.

And here you see them from the back. I did use a little bit of tape runner to hold the lid from the bottom ones to the base of the one above it. Just to stabilize the whole tower. In the great picture tutorial on Oodabugalley blog she did quite a bit of manual altering of the die cut for the favor box, I didn't want to do all that so the taping lid to base helped with the stabilization problem.

Embedded embossing top note style card

This is my take on inspiration that I found here. I used CTMH Florentine paper and my Cricut Design studio and Accent essentials cartridge. I cut out the five petal flowers, the white top not style shape and the yellow top note style shape. Then I glued down the flowers and ran the whole piece through the cuttlebug in a SU! embossing folder. I believe the technique is called embedded embossing. Add a pretty bow, some pearls and a sentiment from my new sentiment set I purchased from Shawn, here, and it is finished.

Easter sketch card

A springy card inspired from this sketch. I used 1.25 inch scalloped circle punches of DCWV baby girl mat stack papers. Then I fussy cut two bunnies and a little bird from one of the paper designs.

This is just a close up of the CTMH sentiment in Topiary ink and a little blue heart button with a yellow bakers twine bow.

Peeps in a row card

I created this card on my Cricut using Design studio after I saw this pin on Pinterest. It was just too cute to resist. I thought I might luck out and find a silhouette like this on my Easter 2010 cartridge, but no such luck. So I used trusty George basic shapes and put this together. I think it's pretty good.

A close up shot to show the little bit of embellishing. Cute brads for tails and some bakers twine and a flower and I think they are just too cute.
